My First Ketamine Collective Experience

When I first heard about the Ketamine Collective as an intern at Starks Therapy Group, I was curious but confused. I’ve always believed in the power of psychedelic medicine for mental health, but I couldn’t picture what a group experience for therapists would actually look like. It felt abstract, maybe even a little intimidating.

Then I had the privilege to take part in one of the groups and that experience changed everything for me.

I realized this wasn’t about the medicine alone. It was about what happens when therapists allow themselves to step out of the role of helper and into the space of being supported. Sitting in a room with other clinicians, people who understand what it means to hold so much for others, I finally felt what it was like to be held myself.

The group is led by Autumn Starks, with medical care and safety provided by Rick Clark, our nurse practitioner. Together, they create an experience that feels deeply intentional and safe. There are preparation sessions, the in-person medicine experience, and a follow-up integration meeting to process what surfaced. It’s not therapy, but it is healing in a very real way.

If you’re feeling hesitant or unsure, I understand that. I felt that too. You don’t have to know exactly what you’re looking for. Sometimes, the only thing you need is curiosity and a willingness to see what unfolds.

The Collective gave me a space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with why I do this work. It reminded me that we deserve the same care and presence we offer to others every day.

Ruchica Mishra, LPC, is a therapist at Starks Therapy Collective and has now also stepped into a support role for the Ketamine Collective. Reach out if you have questions, she'd love to start that dialogue with you.
